Course Eligibility

  • Must be unemployed or on a low income (less than £20,319)
  • Can be in receipt of a benefit or not (UC/JSA/ESA)
  • Aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2025
  • Must not be in any other form of education or training course 
  • Must have access to internet and either a laptop or PC
  • The programme is NOT available in the following regions (these are the most common, please see link at the bottom to check your postcode if needed): Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire,: Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, West and South Yorkshire, North of Tyne, Tees Valley, Cambridge and Peterborough, Bristol, Bath, Birmingham, The Black Country & Coventry. 

Course Description

This is a 2 week remote course. You will learn from home with guidance from a tutor via a Microsoft Teams meeting.

You must have access to a laptop or computer.

You will have a live session with a tutor (10am – 4pm) We do have some flexibility for school runs.

Units Covered:

  • Exploring new and emerging technologies.
  • How technology impacts society and how to create it.
  • Cybersecurity and how to maintain it.
  • Digital Skills career progression, how it’s valued by employers.

Once you have completed the Digital Technologies side of the course, we will issue a voucher code via email which allows you to log in anytime to complete the Safeguarding Children Certification section of the course at your own pace.

You must complete the Level 2 Digital course first.

Safeguarding Children Units:

  • What “safeguarding” means, why children are a vulnerable group and who has a responsibility to protect them from harm.
  • The different forms child abuse can take, including emotional and sexual abuse.
  • How you can identify the most common signs of child abuse.
  • What you should do if you know or suspect that a child is being abused.
  • Why the internet poses safety risks and how to safeguard children who use the internet.
  • The tools that are available, to help you monitor online activity and block harmful content
  • The signs that a child is developing an online relationship and how to identify if that relationship is healthy;
  • How predators use the internet, to lure in children and signs that a child is in contact with one;
  • What cyber bullies are and what to do, if you suspect that a child is using the internet, in order to bully others;
  • How to identify if a child has become the victim of online bullying;
  • What are the most current apps and software that children are using and the potential risks associated with them;
  • Teaching online privacy and why it’s so important to protect your personal information.
