Course Eligibility

  • Must be unemployed or on a low income (less than £20,319)
  • Can be in receipt of a benefit or not (UC/JSA/ESA)
  • A UK resident for 3 years or more
  • Aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2024
  • Must not be in any other form of education or training course 
  • Must have access to internet and either a laptop or PC
  • The programme is only open to residents of North East England NECA. 

Course Description

This is a 2 week remote course. You will learn from home with guidance from a tutor via a Microsoft Teams meeting.

You must have access to a laptop or computer.

You will have a live session with a tutor (10am – 4pm) We do have some flexibility for school runs.

Units Covered:

  • Exploring new and emerging technologies.
  • How technology impacts society and how to create it.
  • Cybersecurity and how to maintain it.
  • Digital Skills career progression, how it’s valued by employers.

Once you have completed the Digital Technologies side of the course, we will issue a voucher code via email which allows you to log in anytime to complete the Teaching Assistant Certification section of the course at your own pace.

You must complete the Level 2 Digital course first.

Payroll Systems and Management Level 2 Certification:

  • The basics of payroll systems: what you need to know, what to avoid and the importance of communication;
  • The types of payroll systems in the United Kingdom: what to include in the system and working with HMRC;
  • Elements of an efficient payroll system: staff training, performance reviews and recordkeeping;
  • How employees entering and leaving the business impacts payroll: what to do, P45’s and recording time keeping;
  • How to deal with HMRC, when it comes to new employees, what information HMRC will need from the organisation and how to ensure that employees are paid the correct amount each month or week;
  • How to calculate gross and net pay: the difference between gross and net pay and why the business must issue a wage slip for each employee;
  • The different deductions to calculate net pay amounts;
  • What statutory pay is: recordkeeping and reporting to HMRC;
  • National minimum wage, based on age groups;
  • National Insurance contribution systems: why employees pay National Insurance, the different rates and employer contributions;
  • How to manage the online PAYE system;
  • What the employment allowance is;
  • Retirement schemes;
  • Different programmes available for payroll;
  • Tips to correct payroll errors;
  • The importance of annual reporting.
