Course Eligibility

Fully Funded Eligibility Criteria (Unemployed/ Self Employed Learners)

Learners need to be aged 19 - 65 with learners turning 19 before the 31st August 2026.

Learners must be unemployed or self employed 

Can be receiving benefits or not

Must not have completed these qualifications previously and must not be in any form of funded education at the moment.

A learners Maths and English working level must be at least an Entry Level 3.

Must have access to the correct identification to access funding. An in date passport, driving license or birth certificate.

Learners must have been resident within the UK for a minimum of 3 years. We can accept Asylum seekers if the learner has the correct Home Office Identification and access to Government Funds.

Learners do not require a driving license 

 

Course Description

This is a 6 week course for residents who live in North Northamptonshire and surrounding areas, but must be able to travel to Kettering.  

 

You can apply for this course with or without obtaining your Green CSCS card previously.

If you do not hold the Green CSCS card, we can get you started on this first.

If you already hold a valid/in date CSCS Card, we can start you on the Civil course.

Course Overview

Before starting your Groundwork training, we will fund your Green CSCS test and card. This will take place for 10 days in the classroom.

  • 5 days classroom delivery over 2 weeks
  • The course is fully funded by the Department for Education
  • To complete the plant training element, as a private individual, it would cost in the region of £1000.
  • This is fully funded and therefore free to you!

Week One of Groundwork:

  • Environmental Impact & Carbon Footprint
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Principles of Civil Engineering
  • Asbestos Awareness and Risk Avoidance
  • Waste Management in Construction
  • Hand Arm Vibration

Week Two of Groundwork:

  • Concrete Placing and Finishing
  • Principles of Stormwater and Drainage
  • Abrasive Wheels and Use of Power Tools
  • Detection of Buried Services

Week 3 of Groundwork:

  • Subject to 5 full days attendance on classroom elements of the course.
  • 4 days NPORS Training at a local Plant Training Centre
  • Gain Forward Tipping Dumper/ROR Ticket
  • Gain Plant Machinery Marshall category as well
  • Fully Funded by DfE
  • Commercial equivalent approx. £1000

100% attendance is required throughout the course.

Job interviews will be offered at the end of the course!

The course duration will be around 6 weeks in total due to the small plant training being completed in groups of 3. Some learners may be started on week 4, 5 or 6.
